D&WS's core expertise lies in generation technology and peripheral equipment for stand alone power systems.

We specialise in providing high penetration wind energy solutions to stand alone diesel or gas based generation and do this by concentrating on the control, energy flows and generation technology. Our systems typically have wind energy penetrations on average around 50%, and this can be higher or lower depending on the system configuration and size.
Our aim on these systems is three fold;
- to lower the generation costs;
- to increase the reliability and quality of electricity supplied; and
- to lower the environmental effect of electricity generation, making it more sustainable.

A number of key products are used on these systems. The wind turbine is sized and chosen according to the particular project - the location, logistics and capacity, for example, determine which brand and size we would recommend. Automatic control equipment is paramount to success and that used by D&WS controls generation despatch, spinning reserve, under-frequency load shedding through feeder management, wind turbine output and provides for SCADA connection for fully remote diagnostics and asset management.
D&WS also can supply equipment specially designed for higher wind energy penetration. Known as a Low Load Diesel and Dynamic Grid Interface, these products allow considerably more wind energy into the system saving considerably more fuel, but without the need for energy storage. Such options depend on fuel costs but in Australia these technologies can have pay-backs as little as two to three years.
D&WS provides generation solutions of the highest power quality, as demanded by modern consumer electrical systems. People living and working on stand alone grids should and can rely on our systems to provide them with an electricity source equal to metropolitan supplies, which work year in year out in the harshest of conditions.
Our interest lies in systems above about 350kVA installed generation and we have worked on stand alone systems as large as 20MVA. We do not offer a Remote Area Power System (RAPS) product for smaller systems, but speak to us first and we may be able to assit you in some manner if you have a system of this size.
We can also maintain or operate the facilities for you, or lease and hire the equipment. In certain circumstances we will also take equity in projects and D&WS already has a reasonable wind and wind/diesel asset portfolio.
Please see the remainder of the Products and Projects sections of this site for more information on our specific wind/diesel/gas system technology. Or, if you have a suitable application, please contact us.
